New labour statistics 'themes'

To better reflect the contemporary range of labour statistics, better align key labour market data with website themes, and improve discoverability, the ABS is planning to update the themes used to organise labour statistics (shown below). The current themes can be seen here.

The key changes include:

  • a new 'Jobs' theme - to reflect the increased range of jobs-related data - which will include Weekly payroll jobs and wages and Jobs in Australia (currently in 'Earnings and work hours'), and Job vacancies and Job mobility (currently in 'Employment and unemployment').
  • a new 'Labour accounts' theme - for cross-cutting labour account data on jobs, people, hours and payments (currently in 'Employment and unemployment').
  • renaming 'Earnings and work hours' to 'Earnings and working conditions' - to provide a clearer pathway to statistics beyond earnings (e.g. working arrangements, workplace relations) and reflect that key hours data are in the 'Employment and unemployment' theme (Labour Force Survey) and the Labour account.

All other releases will remain in the existing 'Employment and unemployment' or (renamed) Earnings and working conditions' theme.

These changes will result in changes to url's, however there will be automatic redirects in place to ensure previous url's and bookmarks will continue to work. If you have any feedback on this new approach, please email labour.statistics@abs.gov.au.
